Installation

Download and install Astrolabe on macOS, Windows, or Linux

Get Astrolabe up and running on your machine in just a few minutes.

System Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later
  • Intel or Apple Silicon processor
  • 4 GB RAM minimum (8 GB recommended)
  • 500 MB free disk space

Recommended:

  • macOS 12 (Monterey) or later
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) for best performance

Minimum Requirements:

  • Windows 10 (64-bit) or later
  • 4 GB RAM minimum (8 GB recommended)
  • 500 MB free disk space
  • WebView2 Runtime (automatically installed)

Recommended:

  • Windows 11 for best performance

Minimum Requirements:

  • Modern Linux distribution (Ubuntu 20.04+, Fedora 35+, etc.)
  • 4 GB RAM minimum (8 GB recommended)
  • 500 MB free disk space
  • GTK 3 or later

Supported Distributions:

  • Ubuntu 20.04+
  • Fedora 35+
  • Debian 11+
  • Arch Linux

Download Astrolabe

Choose Your Platform

Visit the releases page and download the installer for your operating system:

Download for macOS:

  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3): Astrolabe_aarch64.dmg
  • Intel: Astrolabe_x64.dmg

Not sure which one? Go to → About This Mac. If it says "Apple M1/M2/M3", download the aarch64 version.

Download for Windows:

  • Astrolabe_x64_setup.exe - Standard installer
  • Astrolabe_x64.msi - MSI installer for enterprise

The .exe installer is recommended for most users. The MSI installer is provided for system administrators.

Download for Linux:

  • Debian/Ubuntu: astrolabe_amd64.deb
  • Fedora/RHEL: astrolabe.x86_64.rpm
  • AppImage: Astrolabe_x86_64.AppImage

The AppImage works on most distributions without installation. Just make it executable and run it.

Install the Application

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg file
  2. Drag Astrolabe to your Applications folder
  3. Launch Astrolabe from Applications

First Launch Security:

If you see "Astrolabe.app can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer":

  1. Right-click on Astrolabe in Applications
  2. Select "Open"
  3. Click "Open" in the dialog

Alternative method:

Terminal
# Remove quarantine attribute
xattr -cr /Applications/Astrolabe.app
  1. Run the downloaded .exe installer
  2. Follow the installation wizard
  3. Launch Astrolabe from the Start Menu or Desktop shortcut

WebView2 Runtime:

The installer will automatically install WebView2 if it's not already present on your system.

Windows may show a SmartScreen warning. Click "More info" then "Run anyway" to proceed.

Debian/Ubuntu:

Terminal
sudo dpkg -i astrolabe_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get install -f  # Install dependencies if needed

Fedora/RHEL:

Terminal
sudo rpm -i astrolabe.x86_64.rpm

AppImage:

Terminal
chmod +x Astrolabe_x86_64.AppImage
./Astrolabe_x86_64.AppImage

Missing Dependencies:

If you encounter errors, install required libraries:

Ubuntu/Debian
sudo apt install libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 libayatana-appindicator3-1
Fedora
sudo dnf install webkit2gtk4.1 libappindicator-gtk3

Verify Installation

Launch Astrolabe and verify it opens successfully. You should see the welcome screen with options to:

  • Add scan directories
  • Configure settings
  • Start scanning for projects

Continue to First Steps to set up your workspace and start discovering projects.

Updating Astrolabe

Astrolabe will notify you when updates are available. To update:

  1. Download the latest version from the releases page
  2. Install the new version (it will replace the old one)
  3. Your settings and data are preserved

Uninstalling

  1. Move Astrolabe from Applications to Trash
  2. (Optional) Remove application data:
Terminal
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.astrolabe.app
rm -rf ~/Library/Logs/com.astrolabe.app
  1. Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps
  2. Find Astrolabe and click Uninstall
  3. (Optional) Remove application data:
PowerShell
Remove-Item -Recurse -Force $env:APPDATA\com.astrolabe.app

Debian/Ubuntu:

Terminal
sudo apt remove astrolabe

Fedora:

Terminal
sudo dnf remove astrolabe

AppImage: Simply delete the AppImage file.

(Optional) Remove application data:

Terminal
rm -rf ~/.local/share/com.astrolabe.app
